Welcome to Townsville Bushwalking Club

Welcome to Townsville Bushwalking Club

The original and the premiere bushwalkers in Townsville. In May 1960, the club was formed and has been active for 60 years. In 2020, the club celebrated its 60th birthday. The club pioneered the great bushwalks in the Townsville region. Exploration is in our DNA.

Hidden around Townsville are some very scenic jewels that many people are unaware of or have limited access to. Some of the best waterfalls you will find anywhere, some that flow all year. Or climb some of the region's peaks for great views, or just for the challenge. Traverse magnificent gorge country. The club regularly bushwalks to these scenic gems. Most are non-track walks, true bushwalking, rockhopping and clambering up scenic mountain creeks and through gorges, or to mountain peaks. They are strenuous walks, but a lot of fun.

The club conducts a bushwalk every fortnight except for December / January. Many of the walks are within an hour's drive of Townsville. One-day walks are held on Sundays, and multi-day bushwalks are often conducted during the year.

The club members have also done long-distance walks, eg Kokoda, McDonnell Ranges (300km), Great Ocean Walk, 8 days remote Tasmania, 15 highest peaks challenge (Snowy Mtns), Australia's highest ascent (Hannels Spur), Mt Kilimanjaro, Himalayas, various NZ walks and volcanoes, and more.

Refer to the calendar for dates of bushwalks.
