A small group of four set off for Bluewater Gorge on the south side of Paluma Range National Park for a rewarding half-day adventure into one of the lesser-visited corners of the range.

Starting from the recut Scouts & Bushwalking Club route, we followed a roughly cleared track through varied terrain, pushing into beautiful rainforest and she-oak forest as we made our way towards the old scout camp area. Although the track had been reopened earlier that year, it still felt wild and adventurous in places, with rough ground, creek crossings, and plenty of signs that this is not your average formed bush track.

As we continued on, the forest eventually opened out near the small campsite area, where we paused to take in the views down the valley. It is a special place, tucked away on the edge of the gorge, and easy to see why it has long been remembered by walkers who have ventured here over the years.

From there, the group headed down into the creek and began scrambling downstream towards the falls. This section added a fun, exploratory feel to the day, with careful rock hopping and creekside navigation leading us deeper into the gorge. The scenery became more and more impressive as we moved through the rocky creek bed, surrounded by rainforest, boulders, and cascades. Reaching the falls was a great reward and a fine excuse to stop, admire the setting, and enjoy the peaceful atmosphere of Bluewater Gorge.

After a break, we retraced our way back out the same route, pleased to have revisited this classic Club walk again and to experience a place that still feels rugged, remote, and a little bit hidden. A great morning out with a small group, good company, and a reminder of how many excellent adventures are tucked away in the Paluma Range.
