Mt Halifax - Trip Report
Nine walkers tackled Mount Halifax, reaching the cloud-covered summit after five hours. A fleeting view over Halifax Bay, lunch in the cool air, and a refreshing foot soak at Rope Falls capped off a great trip.

Nine of us rolled out at 6:00 am for another crack at Mount Halifax. Anyone who has done this one knows how the day starts. It goes up. And then it keeps going up. What follows is a steady grind through beautiful jungle creek, with plenty of laughter and encouragement to keep the legs moving.
Five hours later we're standing at the summit at around 11:00 am, looking at a whole lot of cloud where the view was supposed to be. But just long enough for a group photo, the cloud pulled back and gave us a glimpse of Halifax Bay below before shutting the curtain again. Perfect timing.
We spent about 45 minutes up there with lunch, a few stories and some very welcome cool air before heading down.

The descent took around three and a half hours. Tired legs, plenty of smiles. The highlight was pulling up at Rope Falls for 15 to 20 minutes with our feet in that beautifully cold water. Nothing better before the last push back to the cars.
The weather was spot on for a big day. Cool enough to walk comfortably, with just enough sun to remind us why we bother heading into the hills at all.
Big thanks to everyone who came along. It was one of those walks where the journey really is as good as the destination. Great company, good conversation, a few clouds, a mountain climbed, and another solid day out with the Townsville Bushwalking Club.
