Conclusions
A pleasant outing, particularly if there is good water in Round Mtn Ck., but nothing startling. Round mtn is an excellent vantage point for the environs. An easy day trip recommended just after wet seasons.
Access
Follow up Ross R. road until a gate is reached about 18 mls from Townsville.
Route
Traverse open forest country for 2 miles & climb mountain as in sketch. On top about 30° N.E. of the summit is an interesting pinnacle worth the airy view. A 360° view is available, showing up all the local bushwalking areas — Fredericks Pk, Mt Stuart, Mt Elliott Big Jack and up the Ross R. Valley. The descent is easy provided one keeps to the right of the ridge whenever a cliff is met with. The waterhole at the base of the mountain is swim-in-able after the wet season, but takes on an unwholesome appearance at other times. Follow down Round Mtn Ck on the R.H.S. to avoid all the gulleys coming off Round Mtn which one strikes on the L.H.S. Navigation back to the gate presents a challenge.
