Running River.
Discover Running River’s 1966 adventure! The first joint trip of the Townsville Bushwalking Club and Camera Club brought 23 participants together for camping, swimming, photography, wildlife spotting, and storytelling around the campfire in North Queensland’s rugged bush.

28th & 29th May 1966.
This was the first combined meet of the N.F.C. Bushwalkers and the Townsville Camera Club. A party of 9 Camera Club Members and 14 Bushwalkers attended the meet.
On Saturday an advance party of camping bushwalkers came to the broad beach area. Tents were pitched as the day was overcast & the more brave members went for a swim in the pool.
On Saturday night a blazing campfire and stories of other bushwalks (perhaps more rigorous) were related.
Sunday morning before breakfast one of the members climbed the hill & spotted a platypus in the pool. A lucky stroke indeed.
The leaders went back to the cars to meet the Sunday party which consisted of a mixture of bushwalkers and cameramen. The walk to the pool was not as easy for the older men & women as we had expected. One of the camera clubbers was handicapped and found it very hard going. After being carried across the creek by two strong bushwalkers. However he was happy to be back on terra firma.
After a quick lunch the more fit of the bushwalkers and camera clubbers went for a walk to Puzzle Creek a Peters Gate which clicking of cameras ensued. I must praise the Camera Club members who although not used to walking could keep up on the rough country.
Back at the campsite tea was enjoyed by all who had a chance who had not earned it.
The party left the campsite at 3.00 pm after a highly successful meet.
