Seven intrepid hikers set out to explore the spectacular Walkers Creek system on Sunday, led by Cherry, with Brent bringing up the rear and making sure nobody was left behind.
If Cherry seemed a little nervous before the walk, she had good reason. Walkers Creek isn't a straightforward follow-the-track adventure. It requires plenty of navigation and route-finding, with decisions constantly needing to be made based on the terrain ahead. Every bend in the creek seems to present a new puzzle.
As it turned out, there was no need to worry.
The group moved steadily through the cross-country approach and into the creek itself, making good time while enjoying several well-earned swimming breaks along the way. Conditions were excellent and everyone settled into the rhythm of creek walking, scrambling and exploring.

And what a creek it is.
Walkers Creek delivered one stunning section after another. Massive granite boulders, clear pools, cascades and waterfall after waterfall kept the group stopping regularly to take in the scenery. It was hard to pick a favourite spot, as every corner seemed to reveal another beautiful section of creek.

By lunchtime we had reached the upper falls and enjoyed expansive views across the coastal plains stretching towards the horizon. Lunch was taken on the granite slabs near the top of the falls, with plenty of time to relax, swim and appreciate what is surely one of the finest creek systems around Townsville.
After lunch, the return journey provided more opportunities for swimming, scrambling and exploring before everyone arrived safely back at the vehicles in the afternoon.

A big thank you to everyone who joined the adventure. Walkers Creek once again showed why it remains one of the club's most rewarding and memorable walks.
Waterfalls, the right company and a day outdoors - that’s a pretty good recipe for a great Sunday.
