Bog Hollow Creek Gorge hike, Aug 1975: a rugged private trip from Hervey’s Range into steep spurs, rainforest vines, and rocky creekbeds. The gorge revealed casuarinas, hoop pines, towering cliffs, and pools before meeting Keelbottom Creek—an adventurous North Queensland bushwalking route.
Basalt Wall trek, Queen’s Birthday 1975: a scenic hike via Red Falls on Lolworth Creek with swimming holes, perch fishing, emus, kangaroos, and prolific birdlife around billabongs and basalt cliffs. A cold but rewarding North Queensland bushwalk rich in geology, wildlife, and adventure.
Duncans Bluff, Mt Arthur Scott, & Mt Westminster Abbey, Aug–Sep 1972: rugged North Queensland bushwalk with steep creek ascents, rainforest, cliffs, and marvellous ridge views. Campsites offered sweeping vistas, with rock-hopping creeks and routes for classic wilderness adventure.
Ollera Creek to Banana Creek, Star River and Paluma, Queen’s Birthday 1972: a gruelling 45-mile trek with steep gullies, cyclone-damaged ridges, tangled wait-a-while rainforest, rock-hopping creeks, cascades and grazing country. A tough but rewarding North Queensland bushwalking adventure.
Thorntons Peak (1370 m) Easter 1972: a challenging rainforest climb near Alexandra Bay with tangled tracks, stunted upper forest, and sweeping 360° summit views—among the best in North Queensland. A classic bushwalk to one of the region’s highest and most rewarding peaks.
