Paddle on Ross River
A relaxed Ross River paddle from Loam Island to the rockbar, with kayaks, warm morning conditions, calm winds, wallaby sightings, large fish, birdlife, a few freshwater crocodiles, and an easy social start to the weekend on Townsville's river paddle.
A nice easy paddle KG said, not a race. But I looked at the mob assembled and thought “this mob don’t do slow and easy”.... “and I bet we end up all the way to the rockbar”
Well, El Prez should have read the event description we did end up at the rockbar and there were a few vessels built for speed (but not the Prez in an under inflated or leaky kayak) but we meandered up the river enjoying the morning. Started and finish Loam Island. The wind remained largely at bay and the temps warmed up as we paddled upstream. In the upper reaches, the river narrowed and we spotted a wallaby jumping the creek (which meant rock bar) and a few large fish. Following short rest at the rockbar we headed home. There were plenty of birds to be seen and even a few freshies. In all, a great way to start the weekend. Looking forward to the next one.
